Singer Mika Singh has expressed his support for his brother, Daler Mehndi, amidst recent controversy surrounding Daler’s performance at the Kunjapuri Mela in Uttarakhand. Mika described the incident as “disappointing” and called on the media to double-check their facts before sharing them as truth.
On October 20, Mika posted a video on social media where he also wished his followers a happy Dussehra. In his message, he encouraged media outlets to provide artists a chance to explain themselves before reporting any allegations.
Mika said, “The way Daler Mehndi was treated on stage was disappointing. A respected minister accused him of drinking alcohol. Shouldn’t we verify such claims before sharing them? Also, would anyone dare to speak to an international band like Coldplay in that manner?”
In defense of Daler, Mika insisted that his brother does not drink alcohol. He remarked, “He has been a superstar for 30 years. Have you ever seen him with a drink in hand?” Mika also revealed that Daler has been recovering from a major operation, which affected his ability to perform.
He mentioned, “If he seems unwell or not singing to his usual standard, it’s because he’s not feeling well after his operation. Sometimes artists fulfill their commitments even when they’re not at their best.”
The controversy began on October 18 when Daler was performing at the Siddhpeeth Maa Kunjapuri Tourism and Development Fair. During the performance, Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal interrupted, questioning Mehndi’s performance and suggesting he was under the influence of alcohol, which raised eyebrows given the performance fee.
Mika acknowledged the minister’s right to criticize the quality of the performance but stood firmly against the unfounded claims regarding drinking. He concluded with a call for the media to be cautious in their reporting, emphasizing that a misleading headline can harm someone’s reputation, urging them to verify information before publication.
