Sourav Ganguly has addressed concerns regarding a potential conflict of interest in his new role as head coach of the Delhi Capitals, while he also serves as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal. The former Indian captain stated that he has received an order from the BCCI ombudsman that clarifies the matter.
“I’ve got the order of the ombudsman,” Ganguly told reporters following a football match between India and Uruguay.
Ganguly is preparing to make his debut as an IPL head coach in the 2027 season, taking over the Delhi franchise from Hemang Badani. This marks his first appointment as head coach in the Indian Premier League.
Prior to this, Ganguly enjoyed success with the Pretoria Capitals, which is affiliated with the Delhi Capitals, and led them to the finals of the SA20 tournament last year.
At 53, Ganguly has been part of the Delhi Capitals organization since 2019, where he has held several roles, most recently serving as the Director of Cricket, overseeing both the men’s and women’s teams. He expressed optimism about the upcoming season for Delhi.
“Delhi will play well. I’m looking forward to it,” he mentioned during a press interaction.
In his new role, Ganguly will work closely with a leadership team that includes captain Axar Patel and seasoned player KL Rahul. The franchise has also strengthened its Indian lineup by bringing Rishabh Pant back from the Lucknow Super Giants after the 2026 IPL season.
Ganguly had previously hinted that coaching could be in his future with Delhi and is expected to assemble a talented support staff for the next season’s IPL. Alongside Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh, renowned Sri Lankan bowler Chaminda Vaas and Indian spinner Amit Mishra are also set to join the coaching team at DC.
Last season, the Delhi Capitals finished sixth on the points table, falling short of the playoff spots.
