In a significant move for global trade, the U.S. government has announced that certain specialty medications and their components from India and 19 other partner countries will now be free from import duties. This announcement comes as the U.S. prepares to implement a full 100% tax on certain patented pharmaceutical products.
The U.S. Commerce Department released an official list detailing the nations that will benefit from this new zero-duty policy. This list includes medications for rare diseases, fertility treatments, advanced therapies, and veterinary medicines, along with essential components used in the production of these treatments.
In addition to India, other countries included in this exemption are Argentina, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ecuador, El Salvador, the European Union, Guatemala, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Malaysia, North Macedonia, South Korea, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and Vietnam. This decision is expected to strengthen trade relations and provide support for the pharmaceutical industry across these regions.
