Mohammad Rizwan Requests Return of Phone and Clarification from Cyber Crime Agency
On Tuesday, Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Rizwan reached out to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency of Pakistan (NCCIA), asking them to return his phone and provide written details regarding the ongoing investigation against him.
In a letter sent to the NCCIA, which has been reported by various media outlets in Pakistan, Rizwan requested that any future communication be conducted through official channels. He emphasized the need for clarity by asking the agency for specifics about the allegations that prompted the inquiry.
The letter, dated September 28, came a day after media reports indicated that NCCIA officials had claimed Rizwan was not cooperating with the investigation, despite their attempts to get in touch with him.
Rizwan expressed that it has been quite some time since his phone was confiscated and insisted it should be returned. He mentioned that when his phone was taken on August 31, he was promised its return within three hours.
He also highlighted that he was assured the phone would be returned after a digital forensic examination, but due to the delayed time frame, he urged the agency to return it without further postponements.
Addressing the allegations of non-cooperation, Rizwan clarified that he had willingly provided his phone’s password when it was taken and that officials had accessed its contents while he was present. He also noted that during his appearance before the NCCIA on September 10, officials were able to examine the unlocked phone and its messages in his presence.
Moreover, Rizwan requested formal notice of any future meetings required from him and reiterated that all correspondence should go through official channels to his home address.
Rizwan, along with teammate Imam Ul Haq, had been asked to return home following a Test match defeat in England and had earlier appeared before the NCCIA in Lahore after their phones were taken by the team’s security staff.
