Rohit Sharma Eyes 2027 ODI World Cup as He Dismisses Retirement Talks
Former Indian cricket captain, Rohit Sharma, has set his ambitions on competing in the next ODI World Cup, slated for 2027 in Africa. Alongside Virat Kohli, another major figure in Indian cricket since the team’s victory in the 2011 World Cup, Rohit believes their experience will be crucial for India’s chances in what could be their final appearance in the 50-over tournament.
Kohli, who was part of the victorious team in 2011, has expressed his commitment to the upcoming World Cup, vowing to give his all to secure another trophy for India. In response to speculation about his retirement, Rohit clarified that he has “unfinished business” in One-Day Internationals (ODIs).
While Kohli celebrated victory in 2011, Rohit narrowly missed making the squad. Since then, the duo has played together in three ODI World Cups, coming close to a win in 2023 but ultimately falling to Australia in Ahmedabad by six wickets.
During the ODI series against England earlier this year, rumors regarding Rohit’s possible retirement began circulating. However, he silenced those talks with a stunning century at Lord’s, even though the team did not secure a win.
As Rohit and the team prepare for their upcoming ODI series against the West Indies starting this Sunday in Trivandrum, he shared his thoughts on the significance of the World Cup. “As long as you’re playing, there is always something to look forward to. The World Cup has its unique challenges since you face different opponents and play in various venues,” Rohit explained in a recent conversation.
With an impressive ODI record of 11,895 runs in 288 matches, and an average of 48.95, including 34 centuries and three double centuries, Rohit Sharma stands as one of the top players in the format. His enthusiasm for the game remains strong as he looks ahead to future competitions.
