YouTube has recently introduced an exciting new feature called custom feeds, which allows users to fine-tune the type of videos they want to watch. This move comes as part of their effort to enhance the viewing experience by giving more control to users, rather than relying solely on automatic suggestions.
In an official announcement, YouTube shared that the new tool uses Google’s Gemini AI. With this feature, users can make specific requests, telling the AI exactly what kinds of videos they want to see, which ones to highlight, and even which topics to avoid entirely.
For example, if you’re looking for quick tech reviews to enjoy during your commute or relaxing aesthetic vlogs to help you unwind, you can specify these preferences. The tailored video collection will be featured prominently at the top of your homepage in a dedicated tab, making it easy to access.
The traditional recommendation feed will still be available, allowing users to switch back and forth between their personalized feeds and the standard options. Emily Moxley, YouTube’s vice president of product management for viewer AI, emphasized their mission to make the diverse range of over 20 billion videos on YouTube easy to explore. “You’re always just one search away from discovering a wealth of topics,” she noted.
The rollout for creating multiple custom feeds will begin next month on both web and mobile platforms. However, this feature is currently available only to users in the United States.
This development aligns with similar features introduced by other platforms like Bluesky, Instagram, and Spotify, as they also work towards providing more personalized experiences for their users.
