New Delhi Responds Firmly to OIC’s Kashmir Statements
The Indian government has strongly rejected recent comments made by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) regarding Jammu and Kashmir. In an official statement, the government called the OIC’s remarks “unwarranted and factually incorrect,” emphasizing that the grouping has no authority to speak on matters that are purely internal to India.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are vital parts of India. The government stated that no amount of repeated political statements could alter this fact. They also expressed concern that these ongoing narratives from the OIC could damage its credibility.
In addition, the statement criticized the OIC for providing a platform for Pakistan to spread what India described as “fabricated and motivated propaganda.” The Indian government suggested that the OIC should advise Pakistan to confront its own issues related to terrorism, which have been a significant problem in the region.
These statements came after a meeting of the OIC Contact Group, which reaffirmed its support for what it calls the “inalienable right” of the Kashmiri people to self-determination. They claimed that this right is fundamental to achieving lasting peace in South Asia, in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions and international law principles.
