LONDON: Charles Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, is known for his insightful books about British history, particularly royal figures.
He has gained recognition with past titles like “Killers of the King” and “To Catch a King,” which delve into events from the 17th century. However, his upcoming book, titled “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister,” shifts focus to his sister’s troubled marriage to King Charles. Set to hit the shelves this Tuesday, the book contains some controversial claims. In released excerpts, Spencer suggests that Charles felt “giddily elated” following Diana’s tragic death in 1997, reviving an emotional chapter in the royal family’s history.
At 62 years old, Spencer described the motivation behind his writing as a responsibility to share his perspective as someone who witnessed significant events. However, Buckingham Palace has strongly refuted his narrative. In a stated response, they indicated that “the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and color memory,” which only adds to the buzz surrounding the book.

Spencer comes from an aristocratic background closely linked to the royal family; the late Queen Elizabeth was his godmother.
