Malaysia Healthcare Expands Reach in Bangladesh

CHATTOGRAM, Bangladesh, September 21, 2026 – The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) has strengthened its presence in Bangladesh through the recent Malaysia Healthcare Week in Bangladesh, which took place from September 16 to 21. This initiative brought together Malaysian hospitals and healthcare professionals in both Dhaka and Chattogram, responding to the rising interest from Bangladeshi patients seeking medical services abroad.

This event marked a significant step for MHTC as it broadened its activities from Dhaka to Chattogram, where it hosted its first healthcare engagement in the city. The demand for medical travel from Bangladesh has seen remarkable growth, and in 2025, nearly 70,000 Bangladeshi patients sought treatment in Malaysia, generating around RM50 million in healthcare revenue—a notable increase of 24% compared to the previous year.

The activities were organized across two cities to maximize outreach. Dhaka served as the main hub, featuring a corporate networking dinner on September 16. This event, held in collaboration with the High Commission of Malaysia in Bangladesh, connected Malaysian healthcare providers with key corporate players and referral agencies. Following this, from September 17 to 19, hospitals participated in the 13th Asian Tourism Fair in Dhaka, where they showcased their medical specialties and services.

The program then moved to Chattogram on September 20 for two days of events, which included a media session and a networking dinner. On September 21, a luncheon was hosted with healthcare professionals, followed by a corporate networking dinner with PHP Family. Dato’ Suriaghandi Suppiah, the CEO of MHTC, emphasized the importance of building connections to facilitate informed and coordinated healthcare journeys for Bangladeshi patients seeking specialized treatment abroad.

Five Malaysian hospitals participated in the program, including Alpha IVF, IHH Healthcare, KL Fertility, Sunway Medical Centre, and KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist, which took part in Dhaka.

The Malaysia Healthcare Week in Bangladesh was part of the “Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism 2026,” themed “Healing Meets Hospitality.” This initiative aims to highlight Malaysia’s healthcare expertise and enhance the patient experience, reinforcing its position as a leading destination for healthcare services.
