TEHRAN: Iran’s top security official firmly stated on Tuesday that the country will not engage in talks with the United States, in response to President Donald Trump’s recent comment expressing willingness to discuss the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, took to social media to advise against getting swayed by the inconsistent messages from the US president, who has switched between saying “no negotiations” and “we’re ready to talk.” He emphasized that the situation surrounding oil and critical waterways has evolved and insisted that there will be no discussions until Iran’s terms are met.
On Monday, Trump suggested he was open to negotiating with Iran, contrasting earlier statements where he believed it was premature for a deal to resolve the conflict. He shared his thoughts on his Truth Social network, claiming that Iran is eager for a deal.
In the backdrop, Iranian-aligned Houthis have renewed their attacks on targets in Saudi Arabia, marking the second consecutive day of assaults as discussions regarding the Strait of Hormuz have stalled.
Iran has consistently outlined several conditions that it demands to be met before it considers ending the conflict and the blockade affecting the vital waterway. These demands include war reparations and the removal of sanctions imposed on the country.
