Asian Games 2026: India’s Essential Timeline and Highlighted Competitions

The 2026 Asian Games set to take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, are gearing up for an exciting series of competitions featuring a strong Indian squad across various sports. The Indian campaign kicks off on September 17 with matches in teqball, followed by the women’s cricket quarter-finals against Japan and soft tennis on September 18.

Team sports will be a highlight of the event, including popular games like badminton, hockey, kabaddi, and table tennis. From September 24 to 29, athletics is expected to generate significant medal opportunities, alongside other sports such as shooting, boxing, swimming, rowing, and wrestling, each offering chances for Indian athletes to shine.

The final week will showcase critical events in archery, golf, tennis, hockey, volleyball, wrestling, and cricket. Notably, India is looking forward to strong individual performances in weightlifting, with hopefuls including Mirabai Chanu, Gyaneshwari Yadav, Seram Nirupama Devi, and Harjinder Kaur.

September 18

  • Cricket: India vs Japan (Women’s quarter-finals)
  • Soft Tennis: Men’s team preliminary round, Men’s team quarter-finals (subject to qualification)
  • Teqball: Women’s singles qualification and repechage, Mixed doubles qualification and repechage

September 19

  • Teqball: Women’s singles, Mixed doubles, Men’s doubles semi-finals

September 20

  • Badminton: Men’s and Women’s team preliminary rounds
  • Cricket: Women’s semi-finals (subject to qualification)
  • Hockey: Men’s Pool A (India vs Indonesia), Women’s Pool B (India vs Uzbekistan)
  • Swimming: Men’s 100m freestyle heats and finals
  • Wushu: Various events

September 21 to 25

  • The days will be filled with competitions across multiple sports, including athletics, boxing, kabaddi, and various shooting events.

September 26 to 30

  • Highlights include important competitions in archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, and cricket playoffs, culminating in medal events.

October 1 to 3

  • The concluding matches involve medal opportunities in crucial sports like boxing, athletics, tennis, and cricket finals, ensuring a thrilling wrap to the Games.
