Latest Updates on AFG vs IND 2nd T20I
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has quickly made a name for himself on the international stage, boasting an impressive strike rate of 189.21 in his first six T20I innings. At just 15 years old, he has gained significant momentum from his recent performances in Zimbabwe, where he was named Player of the Series after amassing 151 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 196.10. He also earned the Player of the Match honor in the final game of that series.
Sooryavanshi was seen participating in fielding practice, sparking hope among fans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium who were eager to see him play.
Despite this, Sanju Samson was selected for the first T20I but had a disappointing outing, being dismissed for just 10 runs. Many expected India to draft Sooryavanshi back into the lineup, but the team chose to hold him back.
This decision did not sit well with many fans, who took to social media to express their frustration. Some declared they would not watch the match because Sooryavanshi was not playing, with a few even suggesting a boycott of the game. Criticism also fell on Gautam Gambhir, with fans questioning why the talented young player wasn’t getting more opportunities despite his excellent form.
Questioning Sooryavanshi’s Treatment by the Team
Former Indian selector Kris Srikkanth shared his thoughts on Sooryavanshi’s situation, revealing that even he and his wife switched the channel upon hearing the news of Sooryavanshi’s exclusion. “When we found out Sooryavanshi wasn’t playing, we immediately started watching something else. My wife was surprised too, asking, ‘Sooryavanshi isn’t playing? What’s going on?'” he mentioned on his YouTube channel after the first T20I.
Srikkanth expressed concern about the way the Indian team management has treated the young star, noting that they are sending mixed signals. “If you eventually give him a chance, he might feel pressure to perform perfectly right away, fearing he could get dropped again. There seems to be confusion about what they expect from him,” he explained.
As fans eagerly await the final T20I, it remains to be seen whether Sooryavanshi will finally get the opportunity to showcase his skills on such a big stage.
