Francisco Cerundolo Pulls Off Incredible Comeback at US Open 2026

In an exhilarating match at the US Open 2026, Francisco Cerundolo made headlines by pulling off a stunning comeback against ninth seed Taylor Fritz. After losing the first two sets 3-6, 4-6, Cerundolo found his stride and turned the game around, winning 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in a thrilling third-round showdown on Saturday.

Fritz, who was the US Open finalist in 2024, looked to be in control early on. However, Cerundolo stood his ground and gradually improved his game while Fritz struggled with mistakes and rising frustration. As the match progressed, Cerundolo’s determination shone through, and he secured the most important comeback of his Grand Slam journey on the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium. This victory also marks Cerundolo’s first advancement to the fourth round at Flushing Meadows.

On the other hand, this defeat was disappointing for Fritz as it marked his earliest exit from the US Open in four years. Up next for Cerundolo is Belgian player Alexander Blockx in the Round of 16.

Iga Swiatek Edges Past Marie Bouzkova in Tough Match

Iga Swiatek also secured her spot in the fourth round after a hard-fought battle against Marie Bouzkova. The eighth-seeded player from Poland triumphed with a score of 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3), winning both tiebreaks by matching 7-3 scores.

Bouzkova put up a strong fight, challenging Swiatek and not letting her find her rhythm. However, the four-time Grand Slam champion showcased her calmness during the critical moments. Swiatek held her nerve to clinch both tiebreaks and advance.

With this win, Swiatek improved her head-to-head record against Bouzkova to 4-0, having previously defeated her at various tournaments, including the 2026 Australian Open and the 2024 French Open. Swiatek, who earlier defeated Nadia Podoroska 6-3, 6-2 in the second round, will next face Qinwen Zheng, who made a comeback of her own by overcoming Madison Keys 1-6, 7-6 (3), 7-5.

Alexander Blockx Upsets Flavio Cobolli

In another surprising development, Alexander Blockx continued his impressive run at the US Open by defeating fifth seed Flavio Cobolli. After losing the first set 6-7 (4), Blockx bounced back brilliantly to win the next three sets 6-3, 6-0, 6-3, securing his place in the fourth round.

Blockx had already shown his talent in earlier matches, beating Tomas Barrios Vera and Marco Trungelliti. His outstanding performance against Cobolli, who reached the French Open final earlier this year, marked a significant achievement in his young career.

Next, Blockx will face Cerundolo in what promises to be an exciting match as both players vie for a spot in the quarter-finals.
