Delay in MBBS Academic Session Due to NEET Counselling Extension
NEW DELHI: The start of the MBBS academic year for the 2026-27 batch, originally set to kick off on September 8, is expected to be postponed by about a week. This delay comes as the counselling process for NEET-UG has been prolonged due to ongoing court cases and students’ requests for more time to enroll in their chosen colleges.
The second round of counselling has now been extended until September 18, with additional rounds continuing into October. A representative from the health ministry indicated that while there will be a delay, it should be minimal. The academic session is anticipated to commence around September 15, even if the complete counselling process has not yet finished.
Several factors have contributed to this extension, including a few court cases, student appeals for extra time for admission, and challenges related to travel for students under the All India Quota.
