Hyrox Expands in India: A Growing Fitness Movement

Hyrox, a fitness racing brand, is making significant strides in India, hinting at the potential for a broader fitness movement in the country. While global fitness brands have long focused on markets in the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East, many have overlooked India. However, for Hyrox and other emerging brands, the time to enter India has arrived sooner than expected.

Christian Toetzke, the co-founder and CEO of Hyrox, shared with Forbes India that when they launched in India, they had low expectations. He admitted they anticipated a slow growth, but the rapid rise in interest has taken them by surprise. “I thought we would need more time to grow here,” Toetzke said. “But it has turned around much quicker than we imagined.”

The numbers speak for themselves. Hyrox’s debut event in Mumbai attracted 1,600 competitors in May 2025, and a recent event in Delhi saw more than 10,500 participants. Looking ahead, they expect that the upcoming event in Mumbai will draw around 15,000 participants.

Toetzke believes that India could quickly become one of Hyrox’s largest markets, potentially joining the ranks of the U.S. and China in the next five years. Current revenue from India is estimated at around €4-5 million, but the brand is planning to invest significantly to scale operations.

One key factor in Hyrox’s success in India is the community engagement on social media, especially among younger adults aged 25 to 35. However, people of all ages are getting involved in the fitness movement. Currently, around 145 gyms in India have partnered with Hyrox, indicating there is ample room for growth.

Hyrox is already expanding its reach, having launched events in three cities and recently adding locations in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Noida. Country head Deepak Raj mentioned that their goal is to operate in eight to ten cities, while also looking to extend events from three days to week-long festivities.

The Broader Fitness Boom in India

Hyrox is not alone in this expansion. The fitness market in India is predicted to grow rapidly, potentially doubling from approximately $1.9 billion in 2024 to about $4.5 billion by 2030, according to a Deloitte India report. Despite having one of the world’s largest populations and fast-growing economy, only about 0.8% of Indian adults currently belong to a gym, leaving a lot of room for growth.

More fitness brands are capitalizing on this potential. Anytime Fitness has recently opened its 150th gym in India and aims for 500 locations within five years. Crunch Fitness is also expanding in the country, while premium brands like Kris Gethin Gyms plan to establish 300 franchises over the same period.

UFC Gym is actively pursuing its growth strategy in India as well, with plans to open nine additional locations, growing its presence to 17 clubs that will offer martial arts and boutique fitness options.

Additionally, Fit20, a brand from the Netherlands known for its unique 20-minute workout sessions once a week, is preparing to launch in India, emphasizing the growing diversity of fitness offerings available in the market.

The fitness boom in India is real, and as brands like Hyrox lead the way, the outlook for health and wellness in the country looks promising.
