Pony.ai and Uber Expand Partnership to Roll Out Robotaxis Across Europe
San Francisco & Guangzhou, China – August 14, 2026 – Pony.ai Inc., a leader in autonomous driving technology, and Uber Technologies, Inc. have announced an expansion of their collaboration. This new initiative will see over 2,000 Pony.ai Robotaxis introduced to various cities in Europe.
Currently, the partnership operates in Zagreb, and the plan is to extend services to four more European cities soon. Further details about these new locations will be shared in the coming months. The partnership is also set to expand into the Middle East.
The expanded agreement lays out a clearer plan for scaling up Robotaxi services. This approach combines three important elements: advanced Level 4 (L4) autonomous driving technology, a top-tier mobility platform, and efficient daily fleet operations. This strategy allows different partners to work together in one market while also taking on various roles within the partnership. Depending on each market, vehicle funding and ownership can be shared among partners.
Under this new partnership, Pony.ai will supply its L4 technology, along with a strong understanding of rider experience and operations gained from launching Robotaxi services in various cities. Meanwhile, Uber will provide access to customers through its well-established global platform, which includes features like booking, payment, and customer service. Local fleet partners chosen for each market will help manage daily operations.
Pony.ai already runs paid, fully driverless Robotaxi services in four major cities in China, where it has proven its business model can work successfully on a larger scale.
This expanded partnership marks an exciting step for Pony.ai as it seeks to grow further by entering new markets while increasing fleet deployments in specific regions. The collaboration began back in May 2025, when the two companies first shared plans for introducing Pony.ai Robotaxis to Uber’s platform in international markets. In 2026, they teamed up with Croatian mobility company Verne to launch the first commercial Robotaxi service in Europe, which operates in Zagreb.
Dr. James Peng, Founder and CEO of Pony.ai, expressed his excitement about the expansion, stating, “This agreement shows how committed we are to providing safe and reliable Robotaxi services across more European cities. By combining our technology with Uber’s platform, we aim to create successful operations on a larger scale.”
Sarfraz Maredia, Uber’s Global Head of Autonomous Mobility & Delivery, shared his view on the next steps for autonomous transportation: “We’re moving from individual launches to a scalable model. Partnering with Pony.ai, we are blending their cutting-edge technology with Uber’s experience to establish a system that can grow effectively across multiple cities.”
