Shubman Gill Declared Fit for Test Series Against Sri Lanka

Shubman Gill’s recent injury worries have been put to rest, as India’s cricket management has announced that he is fit and ready to play in the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.

Gill missed the first day of India’s three-day warm-up match after injuring his right hand during a practice session. To ensure his safety, the team opted to hold him back, with KL Rahul stepping in as captain during his absence.

However, Gill returned to the field on the third day of the warm-up match, where he opened India’s batting chase of 207 runs. He had practiced in the nets earlier in the day, which signaled positive news ahead of the first Test.

Sairaj Bahutule, India’s spin bowling coach, reassured fans about Gill’s fitness, stressing that the precautionary measures taken were necessary. He stated, “It was purely a precaution. Shubman has been training well, and we felt it was best to keep him out on that first day.”

During the warm-up match, Gill scored 44 runs off 54 balls, hitting seven fours before being dismissed by spinner Keshara Nuwantha. His involvement in catching drills also helped alleviate any concerns regarding his injury.

Focused on Sri Lanka’s Spin Challenge

With Gill back in action, the Indian team feels more confident as they prepare for the first Test in Galle. The match is set to kick off on August 15, with the second Test scheduled in Colombo from August 23.

Bahutule praised Gill’s dedication to his training, mentioning that he has been adapting his practice routines to meet the challenges posed by Sri Lanka’s spin bowling. “Shubman takes his preparation seriously. He’s very meticulous and understands the specific demands of this series,” Bahutule noted.

While Gill’s 44 runs in the warm-up match were valuable, the main goal was to ensure he felt comfortable after the injury scare. With just days left before the Test series, India’s confidence is boosted knowing their captain is back and ready to lead the team in Galle.
