Bumrah to Miss Sri Lanka Test Series Due to Knee Injury

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will not participate in the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, which begins in Galle on August 15. Sources indicate that he is still experiencing pain in his left knee, prompting a decision from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to prioritize his recovery.

The BCCI medical team previously recommended that Bumrah receive an injection to address the knee issue, which arose during the T20 World Cup. Although he received the treatment last month, it appears his full recovery may take longer than expected. Initially, there were hopes he could be ready for the second Test in Colombo, but the team wants to ensure he recovers completely to avoid any risks of further injury.

A well-placed source emphasized the importance of caution, stating, “Rushing players back into action has caused issues in the past. We need to be careful, especially with Bumrah. There’s plenty of cricket ahead this year, including the Asian Games and the New Zealand tour.”

Bumrah was included in the squad led by Shubman Gill, depending on his fitness. With his absence confirmed, the selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, will likely name a replacement. Auqib Nabi, who recently trained with the team and performed well during the India A tour of Sri Lanka, is considered a strong candidate for the spot.

India’s bowling lineup now includes Mohammed Siraj, Gurnoor Brar, and Prasidh Krishna as they prepare for the series without Bumrah.
