Tamim Iqbal Confident About India’s Upcoming Tour to Bangladesh
The president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Tamim Iqbal, is hopeful that India’s eagerly awaited white-ball series in Bangladesh will proceed as planned. He emphasized that Bangladesh is a “very safe” place for the tour and confirmed that talks with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are ongoing.
India is set to visit Bangladesh for a series featuring three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). Initially scheduled for August 2025, the series was rescheduled to September 2026 by agreement between the BCCI and BCB.
During a press conference on July 29, Tamim shared that there isn’t final confirmation yet but reiterated that the boards are doing everything possible to make the series happen. “I don’t have updates about the India series right now. I’m in constant touch with the BCCI, and we’re exchanging emails to keep the conversation going,” he mentioned.
Tamim also addressed security concerns, noting the significant excitement surrounding the series. “The anticipation is huge among journalists, fans, and players. Bangladesh is a very safe country, and I’m optimistic that the Indian team will visit. We’re committed to making all necessary arrangements,” he added.
Scheduling Changes for Afghanistan Series
The newly proposed September window presents scheduling challenges for India, as they were originally set to host Afghanistan for a three-match T20I series around the same time. To make room for the Bangladesh tour, the Afghanistan series may be postponed, though any changes will need approval from both governments and careful planning.
While Tamim is proactive in his role, he also recognized his limitations as the BCB president. “I have responsibilities, and there are boundaries that I must respect. I’m doing my best to communicate the benefits of the India series to everyone involved,” he said.
India last visited Bangladesh in 2022, where they played three ODIs and two Tests. Bangladesh won the ODI series 2-1, but India bounced back to claim the Test series 2-0. Currently, India is preparing for a Test series in Sri Lanka, while Bangladesh will soon head to Australia for two Test matches.
