Cursor Introduces India-Specific Subscription Plan at Rs 649 Per Month
Bengaluru: AI startup Cursor has launched a new subscription plan specifically for Indian users, priced at just Rs 649 a month, which can be paid through UPI. This new plan, called Cursor Start, is significantly cheaper compared to the premium Cursor Pro subscription, which costs $20 (around Rs 1,915) each month.
This launch is Cursor’s first significant move to monetize its growing presence in India, which is now its third-largest market. The company, based in San Francisco, was established in 2022 by 25-year-old entrepreneur Aman Sanger, along with co-founders Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif, and Arvid Lunnemark.
Recently, Cursor attracted attention when SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, announced it would acquire Anysphere, the company behind Cursor, in a massive all-stock deal valued at $60 billion.
As global AI companies compete for a piece of India’s rapidly expanding tech market, they have been rolling out tailored offerings. For instance, OpenAI recently introduced a Rs 399-a-month plan for its ChatGPT Go service. Meanwhile, Perplexity partnered with Bharti Airtel to provide free access to its offerings for 360 million subscribers, and Google teamed up with Reliance Jio to deliver free access to Gemini Pro. Earlier this month, Anthropic also announced plans for its conversational AI assistant, Claude, in Indian rupees.
Cursor recognizes the significance of this market. In a blog post, the company highlighted that India boasts one of the most vibrant developer communities globally. In just a year, its user base has tripled to over 3 million developers, placing India as the top market in terms of active users. Impressively, Indian developers are generating more agent requests per user than anywhere else.
