President Murmu Celebrates Indian Community in Romania

On Saturday, President Droupadi Murmu praised the Indian community in Romania for their crucial role in connecting India and Romania. She described the relationship between the two countries as being built on the strong bonds between their people.

Speaking at a reception in Bucharest, hosted by the Indian Ambassador to Romania, President Murmu highlighted how the accomplishments of Indians living abroad enhance India’s reputation while also boosting ties between the nations. Also present were Union Minister Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya and Members of Parliament Dr. Dinesh Sharma and Vijay Baghel.

During her address, President Murmu noted that despite living far from home, the Indian community maintains a strong connection to India through their successes and cultural roots. She celebrated how Indian professionals and companies are significantly contributing to Romania’s growth and creating more ways for both countries to work together.

“The strongest pillar of India-Romania relations is the close bond between our peoples,” President Murmu stated, underscoring that the Indian community has kept India’s rich culture alive in Romania. She acknowledged the new generation of Indian IT experts, researchers, healthcare professionals, and students who have made Romania their home.

The President commended the Indian community for their positive impact on Romania’s economy and society and for promoting Indian culture abroad. She expressed gratitude to the Romanian government and its citizens for their warm welcome and support for the Indian community.

Stressing India’s vision for the future, President Murmu talked about the goal of “Viksit Bharat 2047,” which aims to transform India into a prosperous and self-reliant nation. She encouraged the Indian diaspora to stay engaged in India’s development, believing their skills and experiences will contribute to the country’s growth.

The President also acknowledged the presence of Romanian supporters of India at the event, appreciating their interest in Indian art and culture, which strengthens ties between the two countries. She thanked them for fostering friendship and collaboration.

In her speech, President Murmu mentioned the ongoing collaboration between India and Romania in areas like sustainable development, climate action, and counter-terrorism. She pointed out the expanding opportunities for economic partnerships in sectors such as defense, renewable energy, education, and technology.

The recent signing of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement was celebrated as a significant step expected to enhance trade and economic relations with Romania and other EU countries.

Concluding her remarks, President Murmu reiterated the Indian government’s commitment to supporting the global Indian community and nurturing relationships with the diaspora worldwide. She then departed for New Delhi after successfully wrapping up her three-nation State visit.
