At Least 21 Injured in Queens Fire, Including Firefighters
A serious fire broke out in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens, New York, on Saturday, injuring at least 21 people, according to local officials. Among those hurt, 19 were firefighters who were quickly taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, as reported by the New York Fire Department.
Fortunately, none of the injuries are life-threatening, but five firefighters did suffer moderate to serious injuries. One firefighter remains in serious condition, local news outlet PIX 11 confirmed.
The blaze started around 10 a.m. EDT in a house close to College Point Boulevard and quickly spread to two neighboring buildings. Images from the scene showed large plumes of smoke rising over the area, as emergency vehicles gathered nearby. Firefighters were seen battling the flames from ladders, directing streams of water onto the fire.
Many residents had to be rescued from the home where the fire began, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
