Advanced Energy Introduces Groundbreaking Power Module

Advanced Energy Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: AEIS), a leading company in precision power solutions, has unveiled an innovative 1100 W board-mounted power factor correction (PFC) module. This new offering, known as the AIH03ZPFC, is the first of its kind in a compact half-brick format.

This module is tailored for use in various fields including industrial, medical, defense, and telecommunications, where efficiency, thermal performance, and size are vital. With a regulated, non-isolated output of 390 V DC, the AIH03ZPFC achieves an impressive peak efficiency of 97.3%, which is a 2.3% increase compared to earlier models. Additionally, it boosts power density by 44%, reaching 380 W per cubic inch.

The AIH03ZPFC also features advanced elements not typically found in half-brick designs, such as internal inrush limiting and digital PMBus control and monitoring. Auxiliary power capabilities ensure that essential functions can operate without increasing the module’s size, allowing customers to create even smaller power systems.

David Richmond, Senior Vice President of High Volume Products at Advanced Energy, commented, “This represents a significant leap forward in power design, thanks to our proprietary technology. The AIH03ZPFC combines substantial power with numerous integrated features, reducing losses by 46% compared to previous models and setting new benchmarks in the field.”

The module offers a unity power factor across a broad input range of 85 to 264 VAC, eliminating power derating in low-voltage scenarios. It’s easily compatible with standard heatsinks and thermal management solutions, and can be used either as a standalone PFC or in conjunction with downstream DC-DC converters.

Designed for a wide operating temperature range from -20 to +100°C, with startup capabilities as low as -40°C, the compact half-brick measures 2.4 x 2.3 inches (61 x 58.4 mm) and has a slim profile of 0.52 inches (13.3 mm). This design integrates digital control and monitoring features, promoting high-density system designs while improving performance visibility.
