Yuvraj Singh Calls for Clear Direction on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s ODI Futures in 3rd ODI Showdown

Yuvraj Singh Calls for Clarity on Future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the team’s management to provide clear guidance to star players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli regarding their ODI futures. Yuvraj believes players of their caliber deserve to know if they will be part of India’s plans for the upcoming 2027 World Cup.

During a chat with JioStar while watching the third ODI between India and England at Lord’s, Yuvraj reflected on the uncertainty surrounding Rohit and Virat. He recalled his own career’s final years when he felt uncertain about his standing in the team.

“I have been in that situation, just like Rohit and Virat are now. It’s not fair for us to judge whether they should continue. The decision lies with the team management, the coach, and the selectors,” Yuvraj stated.

He stressed that if the selectors want both Rohit and Kohli to remain part of the team until the World Cup, it is crucial they communicate this clearly and support them, especially during tough times.

“If you want them to compete in the World Cup, put your hand on their shoulders and say, ‘We want you to play. We’re backing you completely. Go out there and play your game without worrying about a bad series,’” he added.

Concerns Over Rohit and Kohli’s Future Intensify

The conversation about Rohit and Kohli’s future has gained momentum lately. Questions arose about Rohit’s position during India’s tour of England, but BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia quickly denied rumors that the Lord’s ODI could be Rohit’s last match for India.

Yuvraj emphasized that uncertainty can weigh heavily on senior players who have dedicated so much time to the national team. “Clarity from the coach, captain, and selectors is essential. I lacked that clarity, which, in my opinion, was unfair for someone who represented India for many years,” he mentioned.

At 44, Yuvraj called for honesty from the selectors as India approaches the next World Cup cycle. “If a player isn’t in your plans, be upfront. It might be a tough conversation, but they will appreciate your honesty,” he explained.

In a recent match, Rohit scored a commendable 138 runs off 110 balls, hitting 17 fours and five sixes. However, India lost the match by 27 runs, leading to a series defeat of 1-2. Despite the loss, it was encouraging for the team to see Rohit regain his form after some disappointing performances in previous matches.

This article highlights Yuvraj’s insights while addressing the current cricketing climate in a straightforward manner.
