TEHRAN: Explosions were reported on Iran’s Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, with local officials blaming the United States for the incident.
According to the Hormozgan governor’s office, projectiles struck a location on Qeshm Island around 7:00 PM. This report was shared by Iran’s state broadcaster, IRIB.
The Fars news agency also noted that residents heard several explosions in the area, reflecting heightened tensions between the US and Iran. They reported that explosions were audible around 6:45 PM and mentioned that the Masan area of Qeshm had been targeted multiple times recently.
This incident follows a series of US strikes on Iranian positions, accompanied by statements from former President Trump about reinstating a naval blockade on Iran. In retaliation, Iran has targeted various locations in the region.
The US military reported carrying out attacks on sites in Iran, including in the bustling port cities of Bushehr and Bandar Abbas. The aim of these strikes was said to be to impair Iran’s capacity to launch attacks on commercial shipping.
In related news, reports emerged that Iran targeted two ships in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in one crew member’s death, according to sources from the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, a Norwegian tanker was hit by an explosion from an unknown device off the coast of Oman earlier on Tuesday, as noted by MTI Network, a crisis response firm.
