ASI Arrested for Allegedly Accepting Bribe in Bathinda
In Bathinda, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested ASI Baljit Singh, who is stationed at the police station in Talwandi Sabo, for allegedly taking a bribe of ₹20,000.
According to a spokesperson from the bureau, the arrest stemmed from a complaint made by a resident of Bir Talab village. The incident that led to the complaint involved a physical altercation between the complainant’s relative and another group that was farming on the complainant’s land. The relative of the complainant was injured during this fight and required treatment at AIIMS Bathinda.
While at the hospital to gather statements from the injured parties, ASI Baljit Singh allegedly demanded ₹2,000 in bribes initially. Later, when the complainant inquired about the status of the case, Baljit Singh asked for a higher bribe of ₹50,000 to file a report against the attackers. The complainant explained that he could only manage ₹10,000 and requested extra time to gather the remaining funds. He recorded the entire conversation regarding the bribe demand.
Unwilling to comply with the corrupt request, the complainant approached the vigilance bureau in Bathinda for help. Upon receiving the complaint, a team was dispatched to set up a trap, and Baljit Singh was caught taking the bribe of ₹20,000 with two official witnesses present.
A case has been filed against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the vigilance bureau’s police station in Bathinda, and an investigation is currently ongoing.
