Astera Health Recognized for Stroke Care Initiative
Wadena — Astera Health has been acknowledged for its involvement in the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline Stroke post-acute care initiative. This program aims to enhance care for stroke patients, helping to improve recovery and quality of life.
According to the American Heart Association, stroke is the leading cause of severe long-term disability in the United States, with around 800,000 individuals experiencing a stroke each year. The Mission: Lifeline initiative encourages facilities to adopt standardized practices, ensuring that stroke patients receive faster and more effective recovery through evidence-based care.
Research shows that proper rehabilitation and preventive care can significantly improve recovery after a stroke and reduce the risk of further complications. However, the expertise and resources available for stroke rehabilitation can vary between different care centers. To address this, the American Heart Association created quality standards based on its 2016 Guidelines for Adult Stroke Rehabilitation and Recovery.
This initiative provides a solid framework for facilities to enhance their stroke care, focusing on key areas such as program management, patient education, care coordination, and quality improvement. Standardizing these practices ensures that patients have the best chance for a successful recovery.
As part of their participation, facilities receive financial support and specific guidance to improve their stroke recovery and rehab processes. They also have the option to join a collaborative learning program, connecting with experts to share best practices and tools for stroke rehabilitation. This collaboration strengthens connections between various care providers, including hospitals and outpatient services.
Meghan Current-Cary, Rehabilitation Services Director at Astera Health, stated, “We are dedicated to enhancing patient care through the latest guidelines. The post-acute care initiative helps our teams utilize proven strategies daily, ultimately improving patient recovery. Our mission is to ensure that the communities we serve experience healthier, longer lives.”
Astera Health’s commitment to this initiative reflects its ongoing dedication to providing high-quality care for stroke patients and supporting their families.
