Guardian Pharmacy Services Expands in Virginia with New Acquisition
Guardian Pharmacy Services, one of the largest providers of long-term care pharmacy services in the U.S., announced on July 1st that it has acquired Wellness Concepts, a pharmacy located in Grottoes, Virginia. This move adds a third pharmacy to Guardian’s operations in Virginia, alongside others in Gainesville and Wytheville, helping the company better meet the growing needs for long-term care services in the state.
Wellness Concepts, established in 1999, is well-regarded in the Shenandoah Valley for delivering excellent pharmacy services. The pharmacy serves residents in assisted living, skilled nursing, and behavioral health facilities, as well as individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Brent Atwell, the president and a second-generation pharmacist, will continue to oversee the operations here, with the current staff remaining in place—many of whom have worked with the company for over 15 years.
Marybeth Terry, Senior Vice President for the East Region at Guardian Pharmacy Services, expressed her enthusiasm about the acquisition. “Wellness Concepts has built trust in the Shenandoah Valley through outstanding service and strong connections with customers,” she said. “Bringing Brent and his experienced team on board boosts our presence in Virginia and enhances our commitment to providing reliable support across the region.”
This acquisition follows Guardian’s unique business model, which pairs local pharmacy leadership with centralized corporate resources. This approach allows local teams to concentrate on customer needs while receiving support from Guardian’s Corporate Team in areas like data analysis, human resources, and technology.
For Atwell, the key was finding a partner that aligns with their values. “Guardian allows us to maintain our local relationships while benefiting from the resources of a national company,” he noted. “It’s a perfect fit for our team and our customers, combining local care with national support.”
