Knight Riders Group Launches Historic Cricket Stadium in the U.S.
In a significant move for the global growth of cricket, the Knight Riders Group has inaugurated its new international stadium in the United States. The Knight Riders Cricket Ground, located in Los Angeles, celebrated its grand opening by hosting its first Major League Cricket (MLC) match on Wednesday, featuring the Los Angeles Knight Riders facing off against the Washington Freedom.
This specially designed venue at Fairplex Pomona marks a major development, making the Knight Riders the first global cricket franchise to have its own international-standard stadium outside its home country.
Bollywood icon and co-owner of Knight Riders, Shah Rukh Khan, took to social media to express his gratitude for the support from cricket’s leading authorities that made this long-held dream come true. He extended a heartfelt thanks to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and the International Cricket Council (ICC) for their help during this ambitious project.
“What started as a dream turns into reality today,” Khan wrote on Instagram. “This is a place for not just sports but also for entertainment, family gatherings, and unforgettable memories. A special thanks to Jaybhai for being so supportive throughout this journey, and to @ICC and Sanjog Gupta. This is for LA, for cricket fans worldwide, and for the Knight Riders family. Believe in Purple and Gold.”
A State-of-the-Art Facility
The stadium is built to meet international standards, featuring a large main field with eight natural turf wickets and six towering floodlights for night games. The construction involved moving over 32,000 metric tons of earth to create this impressive facility.
Venky Mysore, CEO of Knight Riders Sports, emphasized that the stadium represents a strong commitment to the growth of cricket in the United States. It will host a series of MLC matches from July 1 to July 5, positioning Southern California as a key cricketing location, especially with the sport’s addition to the LA28 Olympic Games.
Although the Los Angeles Knight Riders faced a challenging six-wicket loss in their debut match against Washington Freedom, the establishment of this venue lays a solid foundation for the future of cricket in the area.
