In a strong statement about U.S. foreign policy, Congressman Ro Khanna, a Democrat, said on Monday that the relationship between the U.S. and India has reached its lowest point in 30 years under President Trump’s leadership. Speaking at the IX USISPF Leadership Summit 2026 in Washington, DC, Khanna didn’t hold back in his critique.

He emphasized that the current administration’s “unilateral” actions, particularly its tough stance on Iran, have seriously disrupted global stability. He pointed out that these policies have harmed India, especially by raising domestic gas prices, a concern also highlighted by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

Khanna also criticized the decision to engage in what he called a unilateral conflict without consulting traditional allies, warning that this approach has significantly hurt the U.S.’s credibility on the world stage.
