Shafali Verma Confident Ahead of Key Clash with Australia in Women’s T20 World Cup
India’s opening batswoman Shafali Verma is optimistic about the team’s chances in their upcoming match against Australia in the Women’s T20 World Cup at Lord’s Cricket Ground. She believes that their recent victory over Australia has boosted their confidence as they prepare for this critical game.
Australia is known as one of the top teams in women’s cricket, but Shafali reminded everyone that India has proven it can compete, especially after defeating them in a T20 series earlier this year. “We know Australia are a world-class team, but we’ve beaten them before. Our recent series win in Australia gives us a lot of confidence,” Shafali shared during an interview on JioStar’s Adidas Match Centre Live.
India is aiming for a spot in the semi-finals, and a win against Australia would greatly improve their chances. Recently, India achieved a remarkable 2-1 T20I series victory in Australia, marking their first win on Australian soil in T20 matches since 2016. After a strong start, India secured the series with a thrilling 17-run win in Adelaide, thanks to standout performances by Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues.
Mandhana scored an impressive 82 runs, while Rodrigues contributed 59, helping India post a competitive total. The Indian bowlers, particularly Shree Charani with three wickets, played a key role in clinching the series.
Despite Australia’s long-standing dominance in women’s cricket and their strong record against India, recent matches indicate that India is closing the gap. Shafali emphasized that knowing the Australian bowlers well could benefit the team: “We’ve been playing against them for years. Understanding their strengths and plans will help us keep things simple and play to our strengths.”
As India heads into this crucial match, they sit second in Group A with six points, following a five-wicket win over Bangladesh. A victory against Australia could be pivotal for their hopes of advancing in the tournament.
With excitement building, all eyes will be on Lord’s as India looks to make a statement.
