GENEVA: New Global Rules for Self-Driving Cars Approved

On Wednesday, a UN agency announced that it has approved the first international regulations for fully autonomous vehicles. These new guidelines aim to create uniform safety standards worldwide, which could help support the wider introduction of self-driving cars.

For a long time, concerns about safety and the high costs of creating advanced systems have held back progress in this area. As self-driving cars begin to appear on the streets of more cities, inconsistent regulations across different countries have caused worries among manufacturers. They fear that vehicles designed for one market may face barriers in others.

These new regulations are seen as a crucial step in addressing those concerns and paving the way for a future where self-driving cars are more common on roadways.
