Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed India’s medal winners from the Commonwealth Games 2026 to his residence in New Delhi. He praised them for their outstanding achievements. One of the athletes, boxer Narender Berwal, who secured a silver medal in the men’s 90+ kg category, entertained the Prime Minister with a funny story about a Pakistani opponent he had overcome during the 2015 World Military Games, which brought a smile to Modi’s face.

During the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, India proudly finished in fourth place, clinching a total of 39 medals: 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze. Indian boxers had a particularly impressive showing, winning seven gold and three silver medals. As part of the ceremony, Scotland officially passed the Commonwealth Games flag to India, gearing up for the upcoming games in Ahmedabad in 2030.
