When Shubman Gill had a mix-up with Rohit Sharma that led to Rohit getting run out against Afghanistan, it might have felt oddly familiar. This situation echoed an incident from 2024 during a T20I match in Mohali, where Rohit, then captain, was run out for a duck with Gill at the other end. Back then, Rohit expressed his frustration, shouting at Gill as he left the field. In contrast, during this recent match, Rohit returned quietly to the dugout after the mix-up, and there was no display of anger in the locker room afterward.
In the post-match interview, Gill shared that Rohit wasn’t upset about the incident. “He saw the replay and said it’s all fine. Even in our previous match against Afghanistan, he got run out then too,” Gill explained.
GILL ON HIS AMAZING CATCH
Gill made a significant contribution to India’s victory against Afghanistan, scoring 84 runs, but it was his spectacular catch in the slips that grabbed everyone’s attention. When asked about his catch, he revealed that he had been working hard to improve his fielding skills, as he felt he hadn’t made a standout catch in his international career until now.
“I definitely practiced a lot for this, especially taking slip catches. A friend mentioned that I hadn’t really taken a brilliant catch before, so I’m really happy to finally get one,” Gill said.
Both teams are now set to travel to Lucknow for their second ODI match on Wednesday, June 17.
