Excitement Builds for Salman Khan’s New Film, Maatrubhumi
Filmmaker Subhash Ghai recently expressed his thoughts on the upcoming film Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, after watching a rough cut alongside other industry figures. The latest buzz surrounds the war drama, which stars Salman Khan and Chitrangda Singh.
On May 28, 2026, Ghai shared a photo on social media featuring Khan, Singh, director Apoorva Lakhia, and some other notable personalities in the film industry. The gathering was meant to view an early version of the film, generating considerable excitement among fans and followers.
Ghai wrote about the experience, saying, “It was wonderful to have my favorite directors come together to watch Maatrubhumi. This touching story dives deep into the emotions of soldiers from India and China, highlighting themes of peace and mutual respect.”
As discussions about the film grow, it has also faced scrutiny over its subject matter, especially considering the sensitive history between the two nations. Originally titled Battle of Galwan, the film draws inspiration from the 2020 clash in the Galwan Valley. Reports indicate that after some criticism from Chinese media, the filmmakers were advised to tone down the political aspects and avoid references that might raise diplomatic tensions.
Initially slated for release on April 17, 2026, Maatrubhumi has yet to receive a confirmed release date. The film still needs to clear several approval stages, including defense-related permissions.
Rumy Jafry, who co-watched the film, also shared his excitement. He stated, “Watching the first cut of Maatrubhumi with such fantastic friends was an amazing experience! This film is definitely a must-watch!”
Overall, the latest reactions suggest that Maatrubhumi may focus not only on conflict but also on the human stories of soldiers and their families, promising a compelling viewing experience. The filmmakers have yet to reveal their updated release plans.
