Dix Hills Woman Faces Doctor Search Amid Insurance Negotiations
A resident of Dix Hills is in a tough spot as she looks for new doctors due to ongoing negotiations between Northwell Health and Fidelis Care regarding insurance coverage.
Terri Eisen, who relies on Fidelis Care for her health insurance, could lose access to her Northwell doctors if an agreement isn’t reached by July 15. Eisen has several health issues that require specialized care and treatment. If the two organizations can’t come to terms, she’ll have to quickly find new doctors, make appointments, and ensure her treatments continue—all in less than two months.
“This puts an unfair burden on me,” Eisen expressed. She added that if she had known about the potential loss of her doctors when she signed up with Fidelis in December, she might have chosen a different insurance plan.
In response to the concerns, Northwell stated that “Fidelis proposed reimbursement rates that are much lower than the costs of providing care.” On the other hand, Fidelis claimed that “the rates Northwell is asking for are much higher than those paid to similar providers.” They also mentioned that talks are still ongoing between the two parties.
