Sungrow and Masdar Collaborate on Groundbreaking Energy Storage Project in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi, UAE – May 22, 2026 – Sungrow, a leading provider of solar inverters and energy storage systems, has partnered with Masdar, a prominent player in clean energy, to develop a significant energy storage solution for a pioneering renewable energy project in the UAE.
This initiative, known as the world’s first gigascale round-the-clock (RTC) renewable energy project, combines an impressive 5.2 gigawatts (GW) of solar power with a massive 19 gigawatt-hours (GWh) battery energy storage system. This project aims to provide reliable and continuous renewable energy on an unprecedented scale.
As part of the agreement, Sungrow will deliver 7.5 GWh of its advanced PowerTitan 3.0 energy storage system and 2.6 GW of photovoltaic inverter solutions. These components are crucial for ensuring the project’s efficiency and operational reliability.
The RTC project is designed to meet the increasing need for dependable clean energy. It will support various sectors, including industries that consume large amounts of energy, residential communities, and even digital infrastructures.
Continuous Renewable Energy Supply
Expected to start operations in 2027, the RTC project will enhance the delivery of stable clean energy 24/7. It will feature over 1,000 PowerTitan 3.0 liquid-cooled energy storage systems integrated with cutting-edge inverter technologies to ensure a steady power flow and improve grid stability.
Each energy unit will follow a smart cycle of 8 hours of charging and 16 hours of discharging, providing a flexible and stable renewable energy supply. The innovative design also focuses on safety and efficiency.
High Performance in Tough Conditions
The system is equipped with a state-of-the-art Silicon Carbide Power Conversion System, achieving an impressive efficiency rate of 99.3% and a round-trip efficiency of 90%. It operates effectively in extreme weather conditions, withstanding temperatures up to 55°C, making it suitable for the challenging UAE climate.
Once operational, the RTC will generate large-scale renewable energy at competitive prices. This project sets a new standard that could be replicated internationally, showcasing the potential of renewable energy beyond traditional limits.
