Ruturaj Gaikwad Offers Unusual Insight into CSK’s Stumble Against SRH

Chennai Super Kings Face Defeat in Crucial Match Against SunRisers Hyderabad

In a recent clash during the IPL 2026 season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad pointed to his bowlers as a significant reason for the team’s loss against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their last home game on May 18.

Batting first at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Gaikwad had a tough time, scoring just 15 runs off 21 balls, which greatly slowed down CSK’s innings. While other batsmen like Sanju Samson and Kartik Sharma found their rhythm, scoring at strike rates above 160, Gaikwad’s performance hindered the team’s progress, leading them to a total of 180/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

In the end, CSK lost the match by five wickets as SRH successfully chased down the target in 19 overs, earning them a spot in the playoffs.

Captain’s Reflection on the Game

After the match, when asked how CSK could have performed better, Gaikwad did not focus on the batting but rather pointed out the bowlers’ failure to maintain pressure after taking wickets. “It’s about capitalizing on opportunities right after getting a wicket. We didn’t manage to do that,” he stated in the post-match interview.

His comments sparked frustration among fans, especially after his slow batting performance in such a critical match. Many took to social media to express their disappointment, with one fan noting that Ravi Shastri attempted to explain the need for a higher strike rate, but Gaikwad seemed reluctant to acknowledge it.

Despite the loss, Gaikwad remains hopeful for CSK’s future. He expressed confidence in the younger players stepping up in the upcoming seasons, saying, “I’m still proud of the team and feel positive about the future.”

The team will now need to focus on their next match against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 21. With 12 points from 13 matches, CSK’s chances for playoff qualification are slim, as they compete with various teams for the final spot.

As the competition heats up, all eyes will be on CSK’s final group-stage match to see if they can turn their fortunes around.
