Tragic Incident in Northwest Delhi: Man Dies After Self-Immolation
A 30-year-old man tragically lost his life in Jahangirpuri, Northwest Delhi, late Monday night after setting himself on fire. Reports indicate that he was distressed over his wife’s refusal to return home. Authorities mentioned that before taking this drastic step, he filmed a social media reel in which he blamed both his wife and mother-in-law for his actions.
According to police, an investigation has been launched, and both his wife and mother-in-law have been taken in for questioning. Witnesses reported that neighbors rushed to help the man, who was engulfed in flames, attempting to smother the fire with blankets and dousing him with water, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are troubling. Police revealed that the man’s wife had asked for a divorce, citing domestic violence as the reason for her decision. Investigators learned that, during their initial courtship, the man had deceived her by claiming to be an Indian Forest Service officer, while in reality, he worked as a cab driver.
The woman recounted to police that she had initially declined his marriage proposal last year because of his threats involving private photos and videos. Eventually, they married in January this year, but the relationship quickly soured. Within days, she left him, alleging that he had physically abused her, and moved back in with her mother.
On the day of the incident, police stated that the man brought phenyl and kerosene to his in-laws’ home. After consuming the phenyl, he set himself ablaze. Before this, he recorded a video accusing his wife and mother-in-law of harassment.
This tragic event highlights the complexities of personal relationships and the serious consequences that can arise from them.
