Finn Allen Hails Ajinkya Rahane’s Influence in KKR’s Push for IPL Playoffs

Kolkata Knight Riders Shine Amidst Criticism

In the midst of ongoing debates about Ajinkya Rahane’s leadership and the team’s strategies, the atmosphere within the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp tells a different story. After an impressive 35-ball innings where Finn Allen scored 93 runs against the Gujarat Titans, the team is focused on building success.

During a post-match press conference following their 29-run victory over the Titans at Eden Gardens, Allen shared how the team’s approach shifted after a rocky start to the tournament.

“We’ve maintained our composure this season. Despite a tough beginning, everyone in the dressing room stayed calm, and that’s a testament to our support staff and Rahane for fostering that mindset,” Allen noted.

With hopes of qualifying still alive, Allen emphasized the focus on preparation and hard work for their remaining matches: “We know we need to win the last two games to stand a chance of making it, so we’re concentrating on doing our jobs.”

A Change in Mindset for Finn Allen

Finn Allen, recognized as one of the most dynamic T20 openers, faced a challenging start when he joined IPL 2026, struggling with a series of low scores that led to being dropped from the team. “I was putting a lot of pressure on myself at the beginning, and it was self-inflicted,” Allen confessed.

Interestingly, being sidelined helped him regain his form. Stepping back allowed him to free himself from external pressures. “Being out of the game gave me a chance to relax and gain perspective,” he added. “I enjoy cricket and batting, but I wasn’t having fun because of the stress I placed on myself; those games off turned out to be a good learning experience.”

KKR’s Path to the Play-offs

The victory over the Gujarat Titans has kept KKR’s playoff hopes alive. The team has significantly improved from its earlier struggles, where they sat at the bottom of the points table with just one point from six matches. Now, with 11 points and two matches left, the equation for KKR is clear: they must win both games to reach a maximum of 15 points. Any misstep could lead to elimination.

Even with two wins, KKR will need help from other teams to secure a playoff spot. They hope the Punjab Kings drop points and that both the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings falter in their final matches.

For Rahane’s team, the goal is simple: win decisively and hope for favorable outcomes from their competitors.
