Apple’s Upcoming iOS 27: A Fresh Take on the Camera App
Apple has been using the same design for its Camera app for years, but that’s about to change with the arrival of iOS 27. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the new update will enable users to customize their camera interface completely. This means you’ll be able to choose where the controls—like flash, exposure, timer, and depth-of-field—are located on your screen.
Apple refers to these controls as “widgets.” Users can access these by tapping on a new “Add Widgets” option, which slides up from the bottom of the Camera app. The widgets are sorted into three main categories: basic, manual, and settings. Plus, each camera mode, whether it’s video or photo, will have its distinct setup, ensuring you only see relevant controls for what you’re shooting.
Siri Features Built into the Camera App
In addition to the customization options, Apple is introducing a practical Siri feature within the Camera app. Users can simply point their camera at an object and ask Siri to identify it, translate text, or access helpful information—all while still looking through the viewfinder. Moreover, the button for accessing all controls has been moved next to the shutter button for easier access, along with new grid and level tools.
For those who prefer a simpler experience, the default layout—featuring flash, Live Photos, and Night Mode—remains unchanged. The new customizable layout is aimed at users who want more advanced options but isn’t mandatory.
Enhancements for Siri, Safari, and Weather
Siri will see significant improvements as well, moving into the Dynamic Island with fresh animations and offering a new “Search or Ask” bar that replaces the current Spotlight Search. This new feature will also support popular tools like ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
Safari is getting a cleaner start page, and Weather will introduce a new Conditions panel that provides information on rain and wind without needing extra taps.
Apple is set to unveil iOS 27 at the WWDC 2026 event on June 8, promising exciting developments for users across the board.
