Philippine Officials Decide Against Immediate Arrest of Lawmaker Linked to Duterte’s Drug War

MANILA: Philippine officials announced on Monday that they will not arrest a lawmaker wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for his alleged involvement in former President Rodrigo Duterte’s controversial drug war. This decision comes after a prolonged standoff in the Senate.

Senator Ronald Dela Rosa, who previously served as police chief and was a key figure in Duterte’s crackdown on drugs, has sought refuge within the Senate building. Melvin Matibag, director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), informed reporters that Dela Rosa would be treated as if he were in Senate custody, allowing him to remain in the legislative premises for now.
