Two Arrested in Attempted Murder Case in Aluva

Kochi: Police in Ernakulam rural have arrested two men, including a known criminal, in connection with an attempted murder case.

The suspects, 37-year-old Shyamal Roy from West Bengal and his accomplice Sabir Hussain, 34, were taken into custody after they allegedly attacked two individuals near a bar in Aluva.

The victims, identified as Abbas from Idukki and Shaktivel from Tamil Nadu, sustained injuries when the assailants attempted to stab them on Tuesday night. According to reports, the attack occurred after the victims questioned the duo about a previous disagreement with another individual.

Responding promptly to the incident, rural police chief K. S. Sudarshan set up a special investigation team to track down the suspects. Hussain was caught in the Aluva area, while Roy was apprehended near Perumbavoor.

Police records indicate that Roy has a significant criminal history, with over 20 theft charges since 2014 and several jail sentences. Authorities found burglary tools and weapons in his possession during the arrest.

The operation to apprehend the suspects was led by Aluva DSP N. Babukuttan, with assistance from various police teams. After their arrest, the accused were presented in court and will remain in custody as investigations continue.

In a separate incident, Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials discovered drugs hidden in abandoned shoes at Ernakulam South railway station. During a late-night inspection, officials found four pairs of shoes under an overpass. Upon investigation, they uncovered 3 kg of ganja concealed within the socks of the shoes, as well as a flask filled with the substance.

The Ernakulam railway police have registered a case, and further investigations are underway, supervised by RPF inspector Benoy Antony and Railway DSP George Joseph.
