US-Iran Relations: Trump Optimistic Yet Cautious on New Deal

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump expressed optimism on Wednesday about the potential for a deal with Iran, while also warning that military action could resume if talks fail.

The President’s remarks came as tensions between the two nations continue. Despite ongoing discussions, Iran has not yet responded to America’s new proposal. Iran’s chief negotiator criticized the US approach, claiming it aims to force Iran into submission.

After a brief military operation to secure the Strait of Hormuz, Trump announced a willingness to negotiate. He indicated that if Iran complies with previous agreements, peace could be achieved. However, he ominously noted that if an agreement isn’t reached, military actions would increase significantly.

“We’ve had very good talks over the last 24 hours, and it’s very possible that we’ll make a deal,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

Meanwhile, Esmaeil Baqaei, a spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry, stated that they are still reviewing the US proposal. He assured that Iran would communicate its stance to the mediator, Pakistan, once they have finalized their thoughts.
