Anthropic’s Dario Amodei Warns U.S. Companies: You Have Months as China’s Influence Grows

Warning Issued on Software Flaws by Anthropic’s CEO

Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, has raised an urgent alarm for U.S. companies, banks, and government agencies. He highlighted the need for these institutions to address significant software vulnerabilities discovered by the company’s new AI model, Mythos. Amodei stressed that they have a limited time frame to tackle these issues.

At a recent event alongside JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon, Amodei pointed out that Mythos has revealed critical flaws in software that have existed for many years. While previous Anthropic models identified around 20 vulnerabilities in Firefox, Mythos has found nearly 300. Altogether, the total number of vulnerabilities across various software is now estimated to be in the tens of thousands.

Although most of these vulnerabilities are kept confidential to prevent misuse, Amodei expressed serious concerns about the potential increase in breaches and financial losses, particularly from ransomware attacks affecting schools, hospitals, and banks.

Amodei also warned that Chinese AI models are catching up quickly, being only six to twelve months behind Mythos. This leaves U.S. institutions with just enough time to fix vulnerabilities before they could be exploited by adversaries.

In addition, Anthropic introduced 10 new AI agents that will streamline financial operations, covering everything from investment banking to back-office tasks. They also announced plans for integration with Microsoft Office applications. The company’s latest model, Claude Opus 4.7, stands out in financial analysis tasks.

Lastly, Amodei emphasized the need for regulation in the AI sector, comparing it to the automotive industry: “You wouldn’t start a car company without ensuring it has brakes. We need to establish a process that allows the industry to function effectively while maintaining safety measures for the most critical areas.”
