Boosting Native Healthcare Through HIMSS Membership

Robert Coffey, the clinical director at the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma’s Perkins Family Clinic, is urging tribal health IT workers to consider joining the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). He believes that being part of HIMSS can help them make valuable connections with other tribes, as well as federal agencies.

Coffey highlights that such connections are vital for addressing the healthcare challenges that Native communities face. By collaborating and sharing knowledge, tribal health workers can better advocate for their communities’ health needs.

Joining HIMSS not only provides networking opportunities but also offers resources and tools that can enhance healthcare delivery in tribal areas. This membership can serve as a bridge to improved health outcomes and better access to essential services for Native populations.

Coffey’s call to action emphasizes the importance of unity and collaboration in improving health equity among tribal communities. By joining forces and sharing expertise, tribal health IT professionals can play a crucial role in advancing Native healthcare initiatives.
