Nurul Huda Wins Rupahihat Assembly Election 2026
In the recent assembly elections held in 2026, Congress candidate Nurul Huda emerged victorious in the Rupahihat constituency, located in the Nagaon district of Assam. This constituency underwent changes during the 2023 delimitation process and is now part of the Nagaon Parliamentary constituency, which was previously included in the Kaliabor Lok Sabha seat now renamed Kaziranga.
In the election, Nurul Huda faced tough competition from Aminul Islam of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Jakir Hussain Faraji of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), who was backed by the NDA. Despite this, Huda secured a significant win, marking another triumph for Congress in the region.
Looking back at past elections, Rupahihat had 1,89,990 registered voters in the 2021 Assembly elections, where Nurul Huda won by a clear margin of 1,06,352 votes, receiving 1,32,091 votes to beat BJP’s Najir Hussain, who garnered 25,739 votes.
In 2016, the constituency had similar voter engagement, with 1,67,578 electors. Huda also won that year, gaining 72,627 votes against AIUDF’s Nurul Amin Chowdhury, who received 50,783 votes.
With a strong track record, Nurul Huda continues to be a significant figure in the Rupahihat constituency, reflecting the political landscape in Assam.
