Diljit Dosanjh recently made waves during his concert in Calgary, Canada, when he confronted a group of attendees waving Khalistani flags. The popular singer-actor urged the individuals to leave, expressing his discomfort with the display and making it clear that he does not align with pro-Khalistani sentiments.

This incident comes at a time when Diljit has faced criticism from certain factions for showing respect to renowned actor Amitabh Bachchan. During his concert, Diljit took a moment to address these concerns. He reassured his audience of his commitment to highlighting issues related to Punjab on an international scale. “My job is not to do charity. Wherever I go, I talk about Punjab,” he explained. He emphasized that he often feels that national media overlooks Punjab’s issues, and he makes it a point to raise awareness wherever he can.

The backlash surrounding Diljit’s interaction with Amitabh Bachchan has historical roots. Bachchan faced controversy many years ago due to comments he made after the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during Operation Blue Star. Despite the passage of time, some groups still hold him accountable for those remarks.

Diljit elaborated on his international appearances, including his memorable visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “I went on Jimmy Fallon’s show not to promote a film or song, but to talk about Punjab and the Guru Nanak Jahaz incident,” he stated. He mentioned that he wants to bring attention to Punjab’s issues so they are covered by national media.

During the concert, he even highlighted the historic Komagata Maru incident, where Indian immigrants faced discrimination in Canada. He performed in Vancouver, near the site of this significant event, and noted the impressive turnout at his concert.

By addressing these issues directly during his performance, Diljit reaffirmed his goal of promoting Punjabi culture and concerns on global platforms. He aims to separate his artistic pursuits from political interpretations and firmly reject affiliations that don’t resonate with him.

The Calgary incident has prompted discussions online, with fans and observers weighing in on Diljit’s perspective and the messages he conveys during his shows. His stance highlights the importance of cultural representation and the ongoing dialogue surrounding Punjabi identity on international stages.
