Major Releases Create Buzz in Theatres
Today marks the release of two highly anticipated films: Raja Shivaji and The Devil Wears Prada 2. Both movies are experiencing a fantastic turnout, with The Devil Wears Prada 2 even having its previews sold out in numerous urban theatres yesterday, particularly in upscale areas.
With positive word of mouth surrounding both films, a busy weekend is expected at the box office. In response to the high demand, theatres have decided to add late-night shows this weekend, starting from Saturday, May 2, to Sunday, May 3.
For The Devil Wears Prada 2, several late-night shows have been scheduled. In Mumbai, fans can catch the film at PVR Oberoi Mall at 1:20 am and PVR C&B Square at 1:10 am. Other venues like PVR Lido and PVR Le Reve are also offering shows at 1:40 am and 1:20 am respectively, with similar timings expected for Sunday. PVR Infiniti Malad will host a show at 1:25 am on May 3 as well.
On the other hand, Raja Shivaji is also seeing an impressive response. The MovieMax chain is stepping up to accommodate fans with late shows, including a 12:55 am screening at MovieMax Sion and Mira Road, along with a 1:15 am show in Nagpur. In Kalyan, fans can catch it at both 12:15 am and 1:15 am, while MovieMax Kanjurmarg will have a showing at 2:15 am, available on both Saturday and Sunday. Miraj’s Dombivali location is also offering a 2:20 am show to meet the demand.
An industry insider noted, “There’s crazy demand for these two films. However, with so many releases, some theatres are feeling the strain on capacity. So, late-night shows were introduced to capitalize on the interest.”
Additionally, the Malayalam film Patriot is off to a strong start, while Michael and Bhooth Bangla are maintaining good performances, indicating a fruitful weekend ahead for the box office overall.
