India Boosts Ties with Gulf Nations Amid West Asia Tensions

New Delhi, April 21 (ANI) – As tensions rise in West Asia and the ceasefire deadline between the US and Iran approaches, India is ramping up its relations with Gulf countries. The country is focusing on energy security, the welfare of its citizens living abroad, and other shared interests, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

At a recent press briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted that this diplomatic push is guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Several high-profile visits to Gulf nations have occurred in recent days to strengthen these ties.

Notably, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval recently visited Saudi Arabia. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar traveled to the United Arab Emirates, while Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri visited Qatar.

During his visit to Riyadh, Doval held key discussions with senior Saudi officials, aiming to enhance bilateral relations and energy collaboration. Meanwhile, Jaishankar shared details of his meetings with UAE leaders, showing the strong partnership between India and the UAE. His trip to Abu Dhabi was part of a diplomatic mission that also included Mauritius.

Additionally, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has been actively engaging with counterparts across the Gulf region.

Jaiswal emphasized that India is closely monitoring the situation in West Asia and has intensified cooperation with Gulf nations to address mutual concerns, especially in regards to energy and the Indian diaspora.

On recent events, the spokesperson confirmed that India is in contact with Iranian authorities to ensure the safe passage of Indian vessels through the crucial Strait of Hormuz. This comes after a recent incident involving two Indian-flagged ships in the area, prompting India to express its concerns to Iran’s Ambassador.

Jaiswal reassured that India is also following up on the safety of Indian nationals in Iran and has been in dialogue with Iranian officials regarding their well-being.

Addressing inquiries about aviation, he noted that discussions with UAE authorities are ongoing to address various civil aviation matters.

Regarding the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Jaiswal reported that eight Indian nationals have sadly lost their lives, with one person still missing.
